Hyundai's Tom Ingram claimed his first win since the season opener in the opening Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Oulton Park.

Making a good start from pole position, he built a strong lead of 1.4 seconds before an early safety car was deployed when BMW driver Adam Morgan was pitched off the road exiting Lodge Corner.

Ingram aced the restart and pulled away from the field again, building a margin of over two seconds within a handful of laps, and took the win by 3.3 seconds at the chequered flag.

Ash Sutton took second in his Ford Focus ST after a ballsy move on Rory Butcher at Island Bend on lap 15, with Honda's Gordon Shedden following suit seconds later to take third, despite his tangle with Morgan.

Butcher had to settle for fourth in the locally-prepared Toyota Corolla GR Sport, while an exciting battle behind him between Sutton's teammate Dan Cammish and BMW's Colin Turkington was settled in favour of Butcher who reclaimed fifth place after a race long battle between the pair.

Dan Lloyd was in the wars with a couple of off track moments but set the fastest lap of the race on the way to seventh in his Hyundai, while championship leader Josh Cook was eighth in his BTC Racing Honda Civic.

Fellow Honda-runner Dan Rowbottom was eighth in his Team Dynamics-run machine with Ricky Collard completing the top-10 for Toyota.

The remaining points-scorers were Stephen Jelley (BMW), Aiden Moffat (Infiniti), Jake Hill (BMW), Michael Crees (Vauxhall) and Bobby Thompson (Cupra Leon).

The second Kwik Fit BTCC race of the weekend is due to commence at 14.25.
