Thomas Strauven was claimed the Eurocup-4 Spanish Winter Championship title at Circuito de Navarra last weekend, during the venue’s first competitive motorsports fixture of the 2025 season.
Competing for Campos Racing, Strauven started the weekend strongly by claiming pole position in the first of two qualifying sessions. Whilst he didn’t ultimately win any of the three races across Saturday and Sunday, the Belgian did finish on the podium in all three races to make sure of the crown.
It was actually Strauven’s primary title rival Jan Przyrowski who won the opening race on Saturday, rising from second and keeping his rival just behind in wet conditions. Ean Eyckmans claimed the final step on the podium, just ahead of Rene Lammers, son of former F1 driver Jan, who climbed to fourth following a charging drive through the pack from 11th.
The reverse-grid sprint race delivered a different outcome later that same afternoon, with MP Motorsport’s Yani Stevenheydens claiming honours in another damp contest. Following a start behind the safety car, Stevenheydens charged through from third to pass pole-sitter Miguel Costa midway through the race.
Behind that, Strauven drove through to the final podium position, whilst Przyrowski could only manage seventh.
Strauven made certain of the title in the final race of the weekend on Sunday, following a topsy turvy qualifying session which saw him start 10th with Przyrowski another three places further back. Pole-sitter Eyckmans got a slow start, allowing Lammers and Andrej Petrovic to pass.
From there, Lammers led the race to the flag but was handed a five-second penalty for jumping the start. This handed victory to Petrovic, with Strauven sealing the title with third, just behind second place finisher Nathan Tye.
The event also featured two races from the Clio Cup España, both of which were won by David Pouget, whilst GT Corse’s Porsche 992 took honours in the CER endurance race.
Circuito de Navarra’s next race event will be Ferrari Challenge UK on 26/27 April.
