Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu set the pace in the second free practice session of the weekend for the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship at Donington Park this afternoon (Friday).
In a rain-affected practice, the Turkish rider’s best time came when the track was at its driest, right at the start of running, with his effort of 1m27.639s being just 0.012s away from Jonathan Rea’s pace in session one.
However conditions quickly worsened and Motocorsa Racing’s Axel Bassani was the only other rider to set a representative time, putting his Ducati 0.142s behind with his own early lap.
With rain falling, it wasn’t until the final 10 minutes when riders ventured out on track again, and when they did, their pace was some way off Razgatlioglu’s with the Turkish rider’s teammate Andrea Locatelli the fastest of the five riders who explored the circuit, but 13 seconds adrift.
Hafizh Syahrin was next up on the Petronas MIE Honda, ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri’s GMT94 Yamaha.
Syahrin’s teammate Eric Granado and GYTR GRT Yamaha’s Dominique Aegerter were the only other riders to set lap times in the session, and were separated by 0.064s.
The WorldSBK riders return to action tomorrow (Saturday), with FP3 set to start at 09.00 before Tissot Superpole at 11.10 and the first race of the weekend at 14.00, and with a significantly improved weather forecast too!
