Sandy Mitchell and Shaun Balfe have won the first Intelligent Money British GT Championship race at Snetterton this morning at a canter.
The duo drove their Barwell Motorsport No. 78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo away from their rivals in a dominant lights to flag performance after inheriting pole because of James Cottingham’s grid penalty. Balfe held onto the lead at the start and despite early pressure from Darren Leung in the No. 91 Century Motorsport BMW M4 GT3, was able to pull a gap before Mitchell took over at the pitstop and further extended their gap.
Second position went to Leung and his teammate Dan Harper. Leung took second at the start but dropped to fourth in the pitstops behind the Optimum Motorsport and Sky Tempesta Racing McLarens. Harper fought his way back past and showed pace to close on the leaders but settled for second.
The No. 27 Optimum Motorsport McLaren of Rob Bell and Mark Radcliffe rounded out the podium places. Kevin Tse and Chris Froggatt (on his British GT debut) finished in fourth in the No. 93 Sky Tempesta Racing McLaren with Richard and Sam Neary in the Team Abba Racing Mercedes rounded out the top five.
GT4 class honours went to the No. 56 Raceway Motorsport Ginetta G56 GT4 of Freddie Tomlinson and Stuart Middleton ahead of their teammates in the No. 55 Ginetta, Michael Crees and Thomas Holland.
